Defenseman Wesley among Hurricanes roster cuts

The Carolina Hurricanes returned seven players to their respective junior clubs.

Among the cuts were goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, selected in the second round (No. 37) of the 2014 NHL Draft, and defenseman Josh Wesley (fourth round, 2014), whose father Glen played 20 seasons in the NHL and won the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006.

Carolina's roster currently stands at 44 players.

The Toronto Maple Leafs trimmed their training camp roster by 10 on Monday. Defenseman Matt Finn, and forwards Stefan Della Rovere, Brett Findlay and Spencer Machacek, were among seven players assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Three others were reassigned to their respective junior clubs

The Maple Leafs roster now has 54 players.

The Calgary Flames assigned four players, including goaltender Mason McDonald, to their respective junior teams.

McDonald was the first goaltender picked at the 2014 NHL Draft when the Flames selected him in the second round (No. 34). He'll report to the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Vancouver Canucks assigned three players to their junior teams: center Kyle Pettit (Erie, OHL), and defensemen Mackenze Stewart (Prince Albert, WHL) and Evan McEneny (Kingston, OHL).

The Florida Panthers returned forward Juho Lammikko to the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.

Lammikko was a third-round pick (No. 65) of the Panthers in the 2014 draft.

The San Jose Sharks returned two 2014 second-round draft picks to their junior teams and sent one to the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League.

Defenseman Julius Bergman (No. 46) was sent to the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, and forward Gabryel Boudreau was returned to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Forward Ervan Trupp, an undrafted free agent who was signed this summer, was sent to Worcester.

The Sharks have 48 players still in camp.
