Mitchell takes in a day of fishing with Stanley Cup

Former Los Angeles Kings and current Florida Panthers defenseman Willie Mitchell enjoyed fly fishing with friends in Pitt River, British Columbia, during his day with the Stanley Cup this week.

Mitchell's fishing trip was tame compared to his first experience with the Cup in 2012, when he ascended Mount Benedict to meet his wife, Megan, for a champagne toast.

Mitchell, 37, has played in 795 NHL games for five teams. In 89 Stanley Cup Playoff games he has 16 points, including a goal and three assists with a plus-10 rating in 18 games to help the Kings to their second Stanley Cup in three seasons.

Mitchell agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Panthers on July 1.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
