LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Brandon Halverson had a memorable game in goal for the United States in a 9-1 win against Finland on Thursday.Mark Osiecki said. "He's played very well. He also showed his handling of the puck is outstanding. There were a couple goalie breakouts that we've been working on and he handled those flawlessly."
The only goal Halverson did allow was a tremendous shot from the bottom of the left circle that beat him to the far side, over his blocker, midway through the second period.
However, it's what happened after the goal that will last in the memory of those who filled the USA Rink at the Olympic Training Center.
As Halverson began to reset himself while the teams lined up for the faceoff, he slipped, spun around and fell on his back. He quickly jumped to his feet because the officials had dropped the puck to start play.
Halverson gave an embarrassed wave to the crowd as play continued.
"I do a little post thing and then I do a T-push out and that time I caught my edge a little bit and took a little stumble," Halverson said. "I do it once in a while and that happens. I gave a little bow and got the crowd into it and lightened my mood up. It was funny."
