Voynov lets Stanley Cup decide his new car

After winning a second Stanley Cup championship in three seasons, Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov was back in his native town of Chelyabinsk, Russia. On Tuesday he had an old friend with him.

Voynov, 24, spent the day sharing the sport's most prestigious trophy with his hometown friends and family. In the morning, he arrived with the Cup at the office of Boris Dubrobsky, who is the acting governor of Chelyabinsk.

From there Voynov and the Cup decided to go shopping. For a Ferrari.

Philip Pritchard of the Hockey Hall of Fame and one of the keepers of the Stanley Cup, tweeted a photograph of Voynov and the Cup between red and silver Ferraris. The Cup helped Voynov make the decision rather easy.

"Slava goes car shopping in Chelebinsk, picks silver one to match #stanleycup," Pritchard wrote.

Voynov also spent time with the Cup at an aquarium and his hometown ice rink, where he played from 2006-08. Voynov signed autographs and fans were able to take pictures.

A second-round pick (No. 32) by the Kings at the 2008 NHL Draft, Voynov had four goals and 30 assists in 82 regular-season games last season, and two goals and seven assists in 26 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
