Kings scout Andersson enjoys day with Cup

It didn't take long for Los Angeles Kings European amateur scout Niklas Andersson to get a day with the Stanley Cup. Slightly more than 13 months after being hired by the Kings, Andersson brought the Stanley Cup to Sweden to enjoy his day with the most iconic trophy in sports.

Andersson played 164 NHL games and his last 10 pro seasons in Sweden before retiring as a player in 2011. After taking the scouting job with L.A. in May 2013, Andersson figured prominently at the 2014 NHL Draft for a Kings team that drafted Europeans with two of its top three picks, including Swedish forward Adrian Kempe in the first round (No. 29).

But there was no business to attend to Wednesday when Andersson enjoyed his day with the Cup on the island of Smogen, a maritime summer area located in western Sweden. The town is located about 80 miles north of Gothenburg, home to the Frolunda Hockey Club of the Swedish Hockey League, where Andersson developed as a player, along with NHL players Henrik Lundqvist, Erik Karlsson, Loui Eriksson, Lars Eller, Viktor Stalberg, Alex Steen, Robin Lehner and Frederik Andersen.

Andersson shared the Cup with friends and family Wednesday, but the highlight for most residents was when the Cup served as the guest of honor at an event hosted by the Smogen Sea Lodge, a popular local hotel and restaurant located on the Skagerrak Sea. At the event, locals were able to meet Andersson and have their pictures taken with the Cup.

Andersson was scheduled to bring the Cup to Gothenburg for the remainder of the day. From there, it will be transported to Finland on Thursday, when Kings director of European scouting, and another former Frolunda player, Christian Ruuttu enjoys his day with the Stanley Cup.
