Brown right at home at rink with Stanley Cup

Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown spent much of his childhood at Cass Park Rink in Ithaca, N.Y. He thought the Stanley Cup should spend some time there too.

"I remember being down here at 6 in the morning on Mondays and Wednesdays, from the time I was 7 till about 14," Brown told USA Today. "I made a lot of memories in this building, and I thought this would be a pretty cool place to have it."

About 1,000 fans showed up at the rink Saturday when Brown celebrated his day with the Cup for the second time in his hometown.

"It's pretty awesome to see this many people, considering we just announced it a couple of days ago," Brown said. "It seems like there are more people here than last time (in 2012), and we had a month to plan it last time. It's just the way things worked out."

Mayor Svante Myrick proclaimed Saturday "Dustin Brown Day" in the City of Ithaca.

"We're not all going to win the Stanley Cup, but we've got kids here who are going to excel at something in life," Myrick said, according to Time Warner Cable News. "To see such a physical representation of what that excellence can get you, it's pretty amazing."

Fans took photos with the Cup and Brown carried it through the crowd.

"To know that all the team members held it in their hands after they won, that's exciting to know we touched it too," fan Pam Martzall told TWC News.

The event was a fundraiser for the YMCA of Ithaca and Cass Park Rink. After Brown won the Stanley Cup in 2012, he held an event at Ithaca High School that benefitted the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
