Devils GM Lamoriello pleased with additions

New Jersey Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello joined NHL Live to discuss his additions to the team following a flurry of activity to open the free-agent signing period.

Lamoriello is hoping the signing of forward Mike Cammalleri will improve an offense that finished 27th in the NHL with a 2.40 goals-per-game average last season. He also added veteran Martin Havlat, and re-signed forwards Stephen Gionta and Steve Bernier.

"We're very pleased," Lamoriello said. "We certainly think that Mike can bring a dimension, just the way he plays and what he's used to doing, and that's scoring. Certainly Mike can add to that, so can Marty Havlat. If we can get him back on track it will bring a lot to our scoring."

Lamoriello also fortified the Devils in goal in light of the expected departure of free-agent Martin Brodeur when he signed Scott Clemmensen to a reported one-year, two-way contract. Clemmensen will compete with Keith Kinkaid to back up Cory Schneider.

"I've never said good-bye to him. He'll always be a Devil," Lamoriello said of Brodeur. "I'm sure he'll be back in the organization once he's through playing. We all have choices to make, we all have decisions to make. The relationship with Marty will never change."
