Stars great Modano talks Hall call on NHL Live

Former Minnesota North Stars and Dallas Stars legend Mike Modano joined NHL Live to discuss his recent induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

A seven-time all-star and the highest-scoring American-born player in NHL history (561 goals, 1,374 points), Modano led the Stars to the Stanley Cup in 1999 and leads all American players with 146 playoff points. He played all but 40 of his 1,499 games, the most by a U.S.-born forward, with the Minnesota/Dallas franchise.

"I still can't believe the call," Modano said. "I was just driving around doing some errands, trying to keep busy, trying not to think about it, and then about a quarter to two Dallas time, I see a 416 (area code) coming across my phone. I couldn't say what I really wanted to say and how much it meant to you. I just had to pull over and kind of collect my thoughts. It's certainly amazing."

The 2014 Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Nov. 17.

"It's never on your radar," Modano said. "It was never on my radar until I was done playing and I just kind of often thought about it, just kind of wondered if you made a big enough impact or you accomplished enough to get in there. You feel like you don't belong. There's so many great players and guys that did some amazing things in the game."
