DeKeyser excited to represent Red Wings at Awards

LAS VEGAS -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Danny DeKeyser may one day gain entrance into the NHL Awards show for what he did on the ice. For now, though, he'll have to settle for a free trip to Las Vegas to be a presenter at the 2014 NHL Awards (7 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC).

"Why not?" DeKeyser told NHL.com on Monday. "This is pretty nice."

DeKeyser is representing the Red Wings in presenting the Jack Adams Award during the show Tuesday at Encore Theater in Wynn Las Vegas. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock is one of the three nominees for the award, along with Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy and Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper.

DeKeyser will be joined on stage in the presentation of the award by Lightning forward Tyler Johnson and Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov. He said he was approached by the Red Wings a few weeks ago about presenting at the Awards.

"They said if you want to, it would be cool," DeKeyser said. "I was like, 'Yeah, it'd be cool.' "

The presentation of the GM of the Year Award will be similar. Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown, Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf and Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban will serve as the presenters, and one of them will get to hand the award to his own GM.

Dean Lombardi (Kings), Bob Murray (Ducks) and Marc Bergevin (Canadiens) are the nominees for the GM of the Year Award.

Subban is not nominated for a NHL award, but he is a finalist along with Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron for the EA Sports NHL 15 cover vote. Subban is also going to serve as a backstage reporter for the broadcast.
