Stanley Cup pays visit to Angels game

Fans attending the baseball game at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Saturday enjoyed an unexpected treat before the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim hosted the Texas Rangers in a West Division matchup. The Stanley Cup was the guest of honor at the weekend contest, which the Angels won 3-2 in the 10th inning.

The Cup paid a visit to the stadium before the first pitch was tossed, with a number of Angels players and management taking a moment to pay their respects to the trophy, which was hoisted by the neighboring Los Angeles Kings on June 13.

Among those taking a moment to pose for a photograph with the Cup were Angels manager Mike Scioscia as well as star outfielder Mike Trout and ace pitcher C.J. Wilson. The Cup didn't stay for the entire game but it did provide an eventful afternoon for several people at the ballpark.

From Angels Stadium, the Cup was whisked away to a party hosted by Kings president of business operations Luc Robitaille. With several Kings staff in attendance, the Cup was the center of attention at the celebration. Robitaille even took a moment to serve meatballs out of the most famous trophy in sports. Naturally, some commemorative bottles of champagne were also uncorked to mark the occasion.

All in all, another eventful day in what should be quite a summer for the Stanley Cup.

Quote of the Day

You could feel it. You could feel that they were going after each other and trying to win the game for their team.
