Kings enjoy night with Stanley Cup in Las Vegas

The Stanley Cup will have a prominent role when the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas hosts the 2014 NHL Awards on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC).

Before being taken to the red carpet, the Cup enjoyed an eventful start to the weekend, thanks in large part to some members of the Los Angeles Kings.

A number of Kings, including Drew Doughty, Alec Martinez, Jarret Stoll, Jake Muzzin, Tanner Pearson and Trevor Lewis, escorted the Cup to some of Las Vegas' foremost hotspots Friday night, seen through social media.

It started in the evening when the Cup was the guest of honor at Wet Republic, the sprawling pool at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. While a number of Kings lounged poolside with the Cup, they found the time to pose for photos with DJ Steve Aoki.

Later, players escorted the Cup to Hakkasan Las Vegas at the MGM Grand for dinner and dancing. A number of fans arrived, most notably DJ Tiesto and singer Matthew Koma.

The night included a stop at XS Las Vegas, the nightclub located at Encore, which will play host to the Cup one more time when the NHL Awards take place there.

Quote of the Day

I watched many times this year the series between the Russians and Canada in 1972, and he was a dominating player there. After I watched the tapes, I respect him a lot more because he turned the series around. He was the guy. In that time, he was the best in the world. It’s a big honor for me to tie him.
