Vigneault conjures humor in Rangers' dire situation

NEW YORK -- With his team trailing the Los Angeles Kings 3-0 in the best-of-7 Stanley Cup Final and on the brink of elimination, New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault found some time for levity following what may be his team's final practice of the season.

Entering Game 4 of the Cup Final on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS), Vigneault closed his media availability by referencing, of all things, a humorous commercial for Netflix.

In the commercial, a hockey coach riles up his players by citing another fictional coach's inspiring cinematic speech.

"I had my Netflix imitation for you today," Vigneault said. "Have you seen the movie? You see what the coach says there?"

The media throng erupted with laughter as Vigneault walked off. It was quite a departure from the somber mood that painted Vigneault's media session the day before. The joke was inspired by a series of questions asked after the Rangers' 3-0 Game 3 loss on Monday and their practice on Tuesday about what Vigneault would say to spark his team.

On Wednesday, Vigneault, anticipating he would be asked one more time about his pre-game speech, decided he would respond with a joke.

Just one problem.

"Nobody asked," he said as he walked off with a smile.
