Demko among invitees to U.S. goalie evaluation camp

Thatcher Demko, NHL Central Scouting's top-rated North American goaltender for the 2014 NHL Draft, was one of seven goalies invited to the United States National Junior Goaltender Evaluation Camp.

The camp will be held June 9-11 in Ann Arbor, Mich., and is the first step in evaluating the team the United States will field for the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.

CSS 2014 FINAL RANKINGS

Demko was the third goaltender on the U.S. team that finished fifth after losing to Russia in the quarterfinals at the 2013 WJC. He did not dress for any games.

The 6-foot-3, 192-pound native of San Diego went 16-5-3 with a 2.16 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and two shutouts in 23 games as a freshman at Boston College this season. He backstopped the Eagles to a Beanpot title and an appearance in the Frozen Four.

Also invited to the camp were four goaltenders ranked in the top 15 for the 2014 draft by Central Scouting: Alex Nedeljkovic of the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League (No. 4); Brandon Halverson of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL (No. 6); Edwin Minney of the U.S. National Team Development Program under-18 team (No. 7); and Devin Williams of the Erie Otters of the OHL (No. 15).

Two players picked in the 2013 draft will be at the camp as well: Evan Cowley, a fourth-round (No. 92) pick of the Florida Panthers, who plays at the University of Denver; and Brendan Burke, a sixth-round (No. 163) pick of the Phoenix Coyotes, who plays for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League.

Leading the camp will be Mike Ayers, the goaltending coach for the 2015 U.S. World Junior team, and Kevin Reiter, goalie coach at the USNTDP.
