Mayors, governors make Stanley Cup Final wagers

The mayors of New York and Los Angeles are gambling their ability to sing in front of millions of people on the outcome of the Stanley Cup Final.

In a wager made public Wednesday, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said he will appear on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on ABC and sing the classic Frank Sinatra song, "New York, New York" if the New York Rangers win the Cup.

If the Los Angeles Kings win, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio will go on Kimmel's show and sing the Randy Newman song, "I Love L.A."

"Start spreading the news," de Blasio said. "It's been over 20 years since the Stanley Cup has found its home in New York City, and we look forward to it making its way here. Let's go Rangers."

In addition, the mayor of the city of the losing team will have to buy hot dogs for the Kimmel show audience -- de Blasio would get them from Gray's Papaya, while Garcetti would supply the fans with Pink's Hot Dogs.

"Looks like another perfect day for the Kings to take home the Stanley Cup," Garcetti said. "From the west side to the east side, the Kings will reign. Go Kings Go!"

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and California Governor Jerry Brown made a separate wager.

If the Rangers win, Brown will send organic rice cakes and a book on the history of California to Cuomo.

A Kings win would see Cuomo send Brown a "Taste of New York" gift basket, including Spiedie marinade, Anchor Bar chicken wing hot sauce and a bottle of wine from the Finger Lakes.

"While 2014 is already a banner year for New York State hockey teams, with Union College and Clarkson University as national college champions, the true icing on the cake would be a triumphant return of the Stanley Cup to the Empire State," Cuomo said. "Both the Rangers and the Kings have put forward spectacular championship runs and hockey enthusiasts from the East Coast to the West Coast can surely look forward to a hard-fought series. However, given the tough, New York-resilient spirit with which the Rangers have advanced through the playoffs so far, I am wagering big on the Broadway Blueshirts with a Taste NY basket of some of New York's finest products. Together with one of New York's biggest Rangers fans, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, we look forward to receiving the proceeds of Governor Brown's wager."
