Red Wings' Babcock talks Jack Adams nomination

Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock was a guest of NHL Live to discuss his nomination for the Jack Adams Award.

Despite a franchise-record 421 man games lost due to injury, including injuries to stars Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, Babcock guided the Red Wings to a 39-28-15 record and into the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 23rd consecutive season. Detroit lost its Eastern Conference First Round series to the Boston Bruins, 4-1.

"Obviously it's a special award," Babcock said. "Anytime you get nominated it's always a thrill. I'm a big believer that the coach of the year gets to raise the big silver Cup at the end, but it's always nice to be honored."

Babcock joins Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Patrick Roy of the Colorado Avalanche as the three finalists for the Jack Adams Award. He is a finalist for the second time, having placed third in 2007-08.
