Blackhawks' Toews under the weather, skips practice

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews was sick Thursday and stayed off the ice at practice at United Center.

Toews was the lone Blackhawks player missing at the skate, but coach Joel Quenneville said it's nothing serious. The Blackhawks host the Minnesota Wild on Friday in Game 1 of a Western Conference Second Round series (9:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN, RDS).

"He's fine," Quenneville said. "He's a little under the weather today, but he'll be more than fine."

Toews, who scored three goals and had four assists in the first-round series against the St. Louis Blues, is tied for the Blackhawks lead in scoring with defenseman Duncan Keith (two goals and five assists).

Quote of the Day

For six months, it's a really good accomplishment. But as soon as April [11, the end of the regular season] comes around, no one thinks about the regular season anymore. For six months, it's a real battle to get into the playoffs in the NHL these days. There are a lot of good teams, and it takes consistency over a long time.
