Stewart has been out since March 6, his second game with the Sabres, when he sustained an ankle injury in a collision with Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Anders Lindback and was believed to be out for the season.
"A couple weeks ago I really turned the corner," Stewart said. "I made up my mind I was going to try and push it here and get back for a couple games."
Foligno will return from what at first glance appeared to be a serious knee injury sustained April 3 against the St. Louis Blues. It kept him out two games.
Stewart and Foligno will flank Tyler Ennis on the Sabres' top line.
"It happened to my other ear in Vancouver, I got hit with a dump-in too," Ehrhoff said. "It wasn't as bad but pretty much a similar thing."
The Sabres recalled goalie Andrey Makarov and defenseman Mark Pysyk from the American Hockey League. Makarov will back up Matt Hackett, who gets the start. Goalie Nathan Lieuwen is out with a concussion sustained in a third-period collision with the Flyers' Jay Rosehill on Sunday.
Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said he was staying with the same lineup the team used in its 5-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Even though the Sabres are 30th in the NHL standings, the Red Wings haven't prepared any differently for this game.
"We have a game here [Tuesday] and we've got to be prepared," Babcock said. "These games aren't easy to win; they never are. They're NHL players on an NHL team with pride that you're playing against, and you've got to dig in and you've got to play well."
Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist heads into the game as one of the League's hottest goal scorers. In his past 12 games he has 12 goals and leads the Red Wings with 28.
"[Babcock] has talked to me about shooting the puck more, and obviously I've been trying to do that and I think I've been doing that," Nyquist said. "But obviously I've been playing with some great players too. I think that's the biggest difference this year, also with the confidence you gain playing with them."
Detroit has a one-point lead on the Columbus Blue Jackets for the first Eastern Conference wild-card spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Here are the projected lineups:
