Oilers' Fasth gets second chance vs. former team

EDMONTON -- Edmonton Oilers goaltender Viktor Fasth is looking forward to another opportunity to play against his former team.

Fasth was in goal in a 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday and will get the start Sunday when the Oilers play the Ducks for the final time this season.

"It doesn't matter really what team you play, you want to win every game and that's why you play hockey," Fasth said. "That's what it's all about. Of course it's a special game, I've played with these guys [Ducks] for over a year. But it's still two points and it's a new game."

The Oilers acquired Fasth from the Ducks a day prior to the March 5 NHL Trade Deadline in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2015 draft.

Fasth made 23 saves against the Ducks on Wednesday, but gave up the winning goal with 1:21 left in the third period.

"It's a new game, we lost to them 3-2 the last time and we're looking to get the win [Sunday]," Fasth said. "I think we played well in every game on our last road trip, and we have to follow that up [Sunday] and make sure we try to get two more points."

The Oilers go into the game Sunday after snapping a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 shootout win Friday against the Phoenix Coyotes in what was their final road game of the season. This past Wednesday, Edmonton took a 2-0 lead against Anahiem before conceding three third-period goals in the loss.

"We have to learn to start hockey games, the last three games we haven't started on time," Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf said. "That's been a big downfall for us. It caught up to us last game when we couldn't come back and that's our focus right now, is to start games in the first period."

Prior to their comeback win against the Oilers, the Ducks battled back from a four-goal deficit to beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 in overtime. Friday, they fell behind 3-0 to the Nashville Predators on their way to a 5-2 loss.

"We've been outscored 9-0 in the last three games if you look at falling behind 4-0 to Winnipeg, 2-0 to Edmonton and 3-0 in our last game," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "You'd like to be able to sit there and play with a lead if it's at all possible. Obviously, Edmonton knows what we've gone through, so they're going to come out flying and try to prevent us from doing that. They're going to come out flying right of the bat to try and get us down. We have to be ready when we play."

Goaltender Jonas Hiller will make his second consecutive start for the Ducks after sitting out the previous three games. Anaheim recalled goaltender John Gibson and right wing Devante Smith-Pelly from their American Hockey League affiliate in Norfolk. Gibson will fill in for goaltender Frederik Andersen, who sustained a head injury against the Predators and did not make the trip to Edmonton, while Smith-Pelly will replace right wing Tim Jackman, who broke his hand in the same contest.

Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne will not dress against the Oilers and will instead be inserted into the lineup Monday against the Vancouver Canucks.
