Edmonton Oilers goaltender Viktor Fasth will face his former team for the first team when he starts against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday at Honda Center.
Fasth, who was acquired by the Oilers on March 4 in a trade for a fifth-round pick in 2014 and a third-round pick in 2015, has not started since March 22 when he allowed five goals on 16 shots in an 8-1 home loss to the Calgary Flames.
The undrafted, unheralded Swedish goaltender started last season 11-1-1 with Anaheim.
"It's going to be fun," he told the Oilers website. "I had a good year here and made a lot of friends. Now it's my enemies. [Edmonton] has taken care of me since I got here. Good guys in the group here. It's a good team."
Fasth sat out two games last week after sustaining an upper-body injury in practice but declared himself good to go against Anaheim, which expects to see a motivated goaltender.
"Hopefully you get one past him," Ducks forward Matt Beleskey said after practice Wednesday. "You always want to see him do well, just not [Wednesday]."
With Edmonton experiencing a slew of injuries, forward Steven Pinizzotto was recalled on an emergency basis from Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League. In the past few days the Oilers have lost forwards Ryan Jones and Luke Gazdic for the rest of the season, and defenseman and captain Andrew Ference, who is week-to-week with a torn pectoral muscle.
Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen will get his third straight start against Edmonton.
