OTTAWA -- Ottawa Senators captain Jason Spezza and defenseman Jared Cowen will miss the game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday.
Spezza and Cowen each sustained lower-body injuries Sunday during Ottawa's 6-3 win against the Calgary Flames.
The Senators play the third of a five-game homestand Monday, their third game in four days. They host the New York Islanders on Wednesday to begin another run of three games in four days, closing out the homestand against the Montreal Canadiens on Friday followed by a game Saturday against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
"We're trying to keep as many guys healthy as we can to get through the games, but we anticipate by the weekend that we should have both of them available," Ottawa coach Paul MacLean said of Spezza and Cowen. "I think they're both probable for the Islanders game, but at the same time it's probably more realistic for the weekend against Montreal."
Left wing Colin Greening will miss his second straight game because of a lower-body injury.
"I think the timeline on him is a little bit longer," MacLean said.
Center Jean-Gabriel Pageau was recalled from Binghamton of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis. Pageau has two goals and 10 penalty minutes in 21 NHL games this season. He has 17 goals and 41 points in 44 AHL games.
Craig Anderson will start in goal Monday for the second time in three games after missing seven games because of an upper-body injury.
Center Kyle Turris, who had two goals and an assist Sunday, was named the NHL's First Star of the Week on Monday. Turris had four goals and three assists to help lead the Senators on a 3-0-1 run.
He credited his teammates, in particular linemates Clarke MacArthur and Mark Stone.
"It could have gone to Clarkie, Stoner's played great. It could have gone to anybody," said Turris, who leads the Senators with 25 goals, one more than MacArthur. "I'll accept it on behalf of my line, I guess, and the group of guys in the locker room, but I got lucky this week."
The Hurricanes likely will start Anton Khudobin in goal for a fourth straight game.
