Top prospect Bennett out 'indefinitely'

Kingston Frontenacs center Samuel Bennett, No. 1 on NHL Central Scouting's midterm list of the top draft eligible skaters from North America, missed his second straight game on Sunday as the Ontario Hockey League continues to review an incident that occurred three days ago involving the top 2014 draft prospect.

The Kingston Whig-Standard reported on Friday that Bennett is serving an "indefinite" suspension after being issued a double minor for high sticking 13:38 into the third period of a 5-4 loss to the Peterborough Petes on March 6.

Bennett missed the Frontenacs' 6-2 victory against the Oshawa Generals on Friday and the penalty is currently under review. The Frontenacs have 35 wins and are in third place in the conference standings with five regular-season games remaining.

Bennett is fifth in the OHL with 91 points (36 goals and 55 assists). In 116 career games spanning two seasons, the 6-foot-0.25, 178-pound left-handed shot has 54 goals and 131 points. He also leads the Frontenacs with 10 power-play goals and is second with a plus-34 rating.

He had a league-high 25-game point streak (17 goals, 46 points) snapped on Jan. 30 in a 4-0 loss to the Windsor Spitfires.
