Penguins add forward Stempniak from Flames

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Lee Stempniak from the Calgary Flames on Wednesday in a trade for a third-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Stempniak has eight goals and 23 points in 52 games this season, his third in Calgary.

"When you look at the teams in the League, that's a team that ranks right up there," Stempniak said. "They've got some unbelievable players and they're having a great season. From my end, just looking to go in there and try help out anyway I can, wherever they want to play me and however I can help. I'm really looking forward to it. The team is poised for a good playoff run. You can't help but be excited to join that."

Stempniak scored a career-high 28 goals during the 2009-10 season, including 14 goals in 18 games after he was sent from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Phoenix Coyotes at the NHL Trade Deadline.

The 31-year-old has 146 goals and 330 points in 616 games for the St. Louis Blues, Maple Leafs, Coyotes and Flames.

Quote of the Day

Life's about opportunity and how you respond to that opportunity, and obviously he must have some swagger about him, some confidence about him, because he was solid. He made some good saves. He was 6-foot-3 on every shot, which is a good thing for a goalie. He played well. We got a win.
