Rangers pick up defenseman Diaz from Canucks

The New York Rangers bolstered their blue line on Wednesday with the acquisition of defenseman Raphael Diaz from the Vancouver Canucks in a trade for a 2015 fifth-round draft pick.

Diaz, considered a second- or third-pairing defender, has now been a member of three teams in a little over a month. He was traded to the Canucks by the Montreal Canadiens for forward Dale Weise on Feb. 3.

Diaz, an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, has one goal and 13 points in 52 games this season (46 with the Canadiens, six with the Canucks).

Quote of the Day

That's a really tough thing to play through; when you finally are thrown out there, the game is fast, intense, every single play matters, you've got to find a way to play through that and make smart plays. So it's a huge testament to [Vermette] and some other individuals in our locker room that are putting their own ego, their own wants and needs aside, and are ready for those opportunities when they do come.
