Kings acquire McNabb in multiplayer trade

The Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday acquired defenseman Brayden McNabb, forward Jonathan Parker, and second-round draft picks in 2014 and 2015 from the Buffalo Sabres in a trade for prospects Hudson Fasching and Nicolas Deslauriers.

McNabb, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound left-shooting defenseman, is a three-time all-star in the American Hockey League. Known for his heavy shot and physical play, McNabb has seven goals, 29 points, 45 penalty minutes and a plus-9 rating in 38 games for the Rochester Americans this season. He was a third-round pick (No. 66) by the Sabres in the 2009 NHL Draft.

McNabb may have been expendable because the Sabres are loaded with up-and-coming talent along the blue line: Rasmus Ristolainen, Jake McCabe and Nikita Zadorov.

McNabb played 37 games with the Sabres, producing one goal and eight points. He had no points in 12 games this season.

Parker, a 22-year-old right wing, has spent the past three seasons in Rochester and has five goals and 12 points in 76 AHL games. He has 10 goals and 23 points in 25 games for the Colorado Eagles in the ECHL this season.

Fasching, a freshman right wing at the University of Minnesota, could turn out to be a fit in Buffalo. He can play fast or a physically demanding role as a top-line playmaker or third-line grinder. He was an attractive option as an energy-type wing for the United States National Junior Team at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship.

At 6-2, 207, the 2013 fourth-round pick (No. 118) of the Kings possesses the size to gain access to the front of the net along with the skill to score from anywhere. He has 12 goals and 27 points in 31 games for the Gophers in 2013-14.

Prior to joining the Gophers, Fasching spent two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich., producing 11 goals and 36 points with the U.S. Under-18 Team.

Buffalo's other acquisition, Deslauriers, is a 23-year-old left-handed defenseman who is an exceptional skater. Chosen in the third round (No. 84) of the 2009 draft, Deslauriers was in his third season with the Kings AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs. The 6-0, 230-pounder has 18 goals, 39 points and 76 penalty minutes in 60 games this season, and 23 goals, 76 points and 223 penalty minutes in 188 career AHL games.
