Senators acquire forward Hemsky from Oilers

The Ottawa Senators on Wednesday acquired forward Ales Hemsky from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a third-round and fifth-round draft pick.

Hemsky scored two goals and was named the game's first star Tuesday in a 3-2 win against the Senators.

Hemsky, 30, has spent all 11 seasons in the NHL with the Oilers. He has been the target of trade rumors for the past few years. He was selected in the first round (No. 13) of the 2001 NHL Draft by Edmonton.

"It is hard not to think about it when you are hearing all the rumors, but I have been in this situation for the last four years," Hemsky told CBCSports.com after the game Tuesday. "I just tried to play my game and not think about it. It was fun.

"It was definitely a nice game [against Ottawa] for me if it was my last one here, but it is still sad if it comes to an end. It is what it is. It is a business. We'll see what happens."

Hemsky has nine goals and 26 points in 55 games for the Oilers. In 652 career games, he has 142 goals and 477 points.

Quote of the Day

I've never seen anything like that. The great thing is I don't know how many times guys bailed me out where they had to score to keep it alive and they did every time. It was amazing. It's not the way we draw it up, to go 20 rounds here, but obviously it's a big win.
