SOCHI -- Anaheim Ducks star Corey Perry has seen the impact the Stanley Cup has when it shows up someplace it normally isn't.

He experienced that again Monday when the Cup arrived at Canada Olympic House inside the Olympic park at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

"It's pretty cool," Perry said. "They were pretty excited to see it. I don't know if anybody knew it was going to be here. That's what, as Canadians and as hockey players, that's what we do. We grow up wanting to raise the Stanley Cup. I've had the honor to do it, and it is a special moment.

"I had no idea. I just met my girlfriend here. We just wanted somewhere to hang out and relax because I have the day off. It was my second time in here and I just wanted to see what happens here. It was pretty surprising to see the Cup show up."

Other current and former Canadian Olympians gathered to take a group photo with the Cup, and Perry joined in. A large number of Canadian citizens, mostly friends and family of the Olympic athletes, also had the opportunity to take photos with the Cup.

Like Perry, members of Hockey Canada's management team also showed up at about the same time as the Cup by coincidence. The Olympic experience becomes a small world for everyone involved.

Other Olympic athletes have been tweeting photos with NHL players, and they've been using their time off to check out the other competitions. Players from multiple teams have even trekked into the Caucasus Mountains to check out the Mountain Cluster venues and village.

"I went to the women's [hockey] game when they played the U.S," Perry said. "I've been to curling. I'm hoping to go see the ice dancers skate [Monday night] and watch the finals of that."

The celebration of the Cup with other Canadians might have been unexpected for Perry, but it allowed him a chance to reminisce about his day with it after winning a championship in 2007 with the Ducks.

"It was a long day," Perry said. "We got stuck in traffic on the 401 just outside of Toronto. I got to spend it with family and friends. I took it to Peterborough and did some charity work with the people there. It is just a great experience to have everyone come in and support you on that one day."
