Ryan Miller to start for U.S. against Slovenia

Ryan Miller will make his first start in goal at the 2014 Sochi Olympics on Sunday when the United States plays Slovenia (7:30 a.m. ET; NBCSN) in the teams' final Group A game, USA Hockey announced.

Miller, who was the MVP at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, served as the backup to Jonathan Quick in the first two U.S. games in Sochi.

Quick stopped 51 of the 54 shots he faced in a 7-1 win against Slovakia on Thursday and a 3-2 shootout win against Russia on Saturday. He also stopped five of eight attempts in the penalty-shot tiebreaker against the Russians.

Jimmy Howard, who was scratched for the first two games, will back up Miller. Quick will not dress.

Center Derek Stepan will also see his first action of the tournament. He will dress in place of Max Pacioretty, according to USA Hockey.

Miller, who led the Americans to a silver medal in Vancouver, is 14-22-3 with a 2.74 goals-against average and .923 save percentage with the Buffalo Sabres this season.

The U.S. can clinch the top seed in Group A with a victory Sunday.
