Finland's Barkov to miss remainder of Olympics

Finland center Aleksander Barkov will miss the rest of the 2014 Sochi Olympics with a knee injury sustained Friday against Norway.

According to reports in the Finnish media, the team doctor for Finland has ruled Barkov out for 4-6 weeks after he underwent an MRI.

Barkov, a rookie in the NHL this season with the Florida Panthers after being taken with the second pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, left the game early in the third period. He had three shots on goal and won seven of nine faceoffs in 18 shifts totaling 15:03 of ice time against Norway.

Barkov missed four games at the end of January with a minor knee injury. He has eight goals and 24 points in 54 games for the Panthers.

Finland, which plays Canada for first place in Group B on Sunday (noon ET, USA, CBC), is also competing in the Sochi Games without top forwards Saku Koivu, Mikko Koivu and Valtteri Filppula.
