Hanzal to sit out for Coyotes due to illness

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Phoenix Coyotes will be without center Martin Hanzal for their game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night due to illness.

Hanzal, who has 14 goals and 36 points this season and is a key defensive player and penalty killer, did not take part in the pregame skate. This is the sixth game Hanzal has missed this season due to suspension, injury or illness.

Hanzal's linemates, Shane Doan and Radim Vrbata, will play with Mike Ribeiro against the Blackhawks. Tim Kennedy will dress in Hanzal's place.

Hanzal will represent the Czech Republic at the 2014 Sochi Olympics,

Chicago will be without two of its Olympians on Friday. Defenseman Johnny Oduya is out with a lower-body injury and Patrick Kane is not with the team following the death of his grandfather.

Quote of the Day

He's only 17 but he can see the ice so well and he moves the puck and goes to the open ice all the time, so I just think he's a player that is ready to play in the NHL. I'm really looking forward to coaching someone like this.
