Ducks' Hiller could be sidelined by flu

ANAHEIM -- Jonas Hiller's record winning streak might have to be put on hold.

Hiller will be a game-time decision Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks because of illness, Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said after his team's morning skate.

"He wasn't feeling good this morning so we said, 'Stay home,'" Boudreau said. "It'll be a game-time decision. We'll know this afternoon whether he's still feeling flu-ish or if he feels fine to go."

Asked if he's checking in on Hiller every hour, Boudreau said, "Probably every half-hour."

Hiller tied four others Sunday for the second-longest winning streak in NHL history with his 14th consecutive victory. The last goalie to win 14 in a row was Tom Barrasso of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992-93. Gilles Gilbert of the Boston Bruins won 17 straight in 1975-76.

If Hiller isn't available, Anaheim has Frederik Andersen and rookie John Gibson.

Andersen, who was first off the ice, is 10-2-0 with a 2.07 goals-against average in 12 games this season. The highly regarded Gibson is waiting to make his NHL debut.

Andersen was sent to the American Hockey League for back-to-back games last weekend but was recalled Wednesday.

"We've had [Hiller] play so many games and doing so well, and I haven't played that many games in December," Andersen said. "It was definitely nice going down there and get some games in."

Boudreau confirmed that captain Ryan Getzlaf will return after he left the Ducks' game Saturday against the Phoenix Coyotes after he took a shot off his foot.

Vancouver did not skate Wednesday. Coach John Tortorella said during a radio interview that Eddie Lack would start in goal. Goaltender Roberto Luongo is doubtful due to an ankle injury sustained during a game against the Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 4.

Forward David Booth is expected to return to the lineup after he was scratched the past three games.

The Ducks' lines were rearranged because Getzlaf did not skate but it appears Winnik and Palmieri will sit out. Boudreau has an overflow of forwards and is using a rotation. … Sbisa and Allen skated as an extra pair and are not ready to return. … Boudreau told reporters Tuesday that Souray has had a setback and is "a ways away" from returning. Boudreau also said Monday that Fasth won't be playing by the Jan. 25 outdoor game but should be practicing soon.
