Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray joined NHL Live to discuss his position and what awaits him at his new post. Murray is happy with the foundation established in Buffalo and is looking forward to the future. The Sabres have nine first- and second-round picks to use in the 2014 and 2015 NHL Drafts.

"I think there are some pieces here," Murray said. "I don't think I'm coming into a situation where the cupboard is bare. There are some young guys on the team here. They are big, they are strong and they have character. We are a last-place team, but I see right now a future. And you add the draft picks that we have coming up to that, they can be used multiple ways. There's some work to be done here, but I think we can actually get it done, if we work smartly we can get it done without taking years."

Murray also inherits interim coach Ted Nolan and it's up to him to decide whether to remove the label after the season.

Nolan's record since taking over is 8-11-3. The Sabres were 4-15-1 under previous coach Ron Rolston.

"I've got an open mind about him watching him coach," Murray said. "I want to be around. I want to try to establish a relationship with him so I know where he's coming from and we'll see if we're compatible. But as of today, we are compatible and he deserves every chance to move forward here."
