Flyers' Matt Read out with concussion

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Flyers forward Matt Read will be out at least through the weekend due to a concussion sustained Dec. 31 against the Calgary Flames.

Read was not in the lineup for the Flyers' game Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens, marking the fourth straight game he's missed. He'll also be out for their games Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Sunday at the New York Rangers.

The Flyers initially called Read's absence an upper-body injury. General manager Paul Holmgren said things have changed since the original diagnosis.

"I would say it's safe to say that he has symptoms of a concussion," Holmgren said. "Initially he passed all the tests that are required by the [NHL concussion] protocol. Now he doesn't feel right."

Read has 10 goals and 19 points in 39 games.
