Darcy Kuemper will start in goal for the Minnesota Wild against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.
It will be the second start and third game for Kuemper, who is 0-1-0 with a 6.10 goals-against average and .625 save percentage. His other start came Oct. 15 when he allowed three goals on seven shots against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Kuemper has been solid with the Iowa Wild, Minnesota's American Hockey League team, going 7-10-0 with a 2.47 GAA and .929 save percentage in 17 games.
Niklas Backstrom will serve as the backup Tuesday. According to the (Minneapolis) Star-Tribune, Backstrom has stiffness in his abdominal region and spent extra time in practice working with the coaching staff.
The Wild also Tuesday sent defenseman Matt Dumba to his junior team, the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League. Dumba had one goal and one assist in 13 games, but last played for the Wild on Nov. 23. He recently finished a stint with Canada at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship. Dumba was slowed most of the tournament by the flu and finished with one assist, 15 shots on goal, a plus-4 rating and 12 penalty minutes in seven games.
Prior to leaving for the World Juniors, Dumba's WHL rights were traded by the Red Deer Rebels to Portland.
