Stars forward Whitney out again

DALLAS -- Dallas Stars forward Ray Whitney is out for a second straight game Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens.

Whitney, who sat out a 3-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday due to illness, participated in the morning skate Thursday but was scratched.

Thursday afternoon, Dallas recalled forward Colton Sceviour, who had four points (three goals) in seven NHL games after being recalled from Texas of the American Hockey League on Dec. 9. Sceviour, who returned to the AHL on Dec. 28, leads the AHL with 21 goals.

Sceviour replaced Whitney on the right side of Dallas’ fourth line alongside Dustin Jeffrey and Vernon Fiddler.

The Stars are also missing fourth-line forward Shawn Horcoff, who did not skate Thursday morning and was ruled out with flu-like symptoms by Dallas coach Lindy Ruff.

Jeffrey, who filled in for Whitney against the Kings, is filling in for Horcoff against the Canadiens.

Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
