Tlusty has six goals and 10 points in 37 games this season.
To replace him on the roster the Hurricanes recalled forward Zach Boychuk from Charlotte of the American Hockey League.
Boychuk had an assist in his only NHL game this season, a 5-3 Carolina victory against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 6.
Boychuk leads Charlotte in goals (14) and points (27) and is first in the AHL with 10 power-play goals and tied for first with 16 power-play points. He's been on a tear of late with 12 goals in his past 16 AHL games.
The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
