Devils lose forward Brunner for at least month

ARLINGTON, Va. -- New Jersey Devils forward Damien Brunner sustained a right knee injury in New Jersey's 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday and will be out for at least one month.

"He'll be out a minimum of four weeks," Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello told The Star-Ledger's Rich Chere. "He does not need surgery." Brunner has eight goals and 13 points for the Devils.

Washington Capitals left wing Marcus Johansson will be a game-time decision Saturday against the Devils.

Johansson, who scored Washington's first goal in its 4-2 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday and has 25 points this season, sustained a lower-body injury in the first period, coach Adam Oates said. The 23-year-old attempted to play through it but did not take another shift after right wing Troy Brouwer's power-play goal with 4:31 remaining in the second.

He did take part in the optional morning skate though, alone for a short time while six of his teammates worked through drills at the other end of the rink.

Washington's starting goaltender is said to be a game-time decision. Philipp Grubauer (4-0-1, 2.05 goals against average, .940 save percentage this season) made 39 saves against the Hurricanes and was the only goaltender not to participate in the skate Saturday morning, perhaps signifying he will get his second straight start.

Quote of the Day

We want to make sure that whoever makes our team really makes our team by earning it and not putting them in situations where they get preference because of their status as a first-round pick or whatever it might be. That's not going to happen. Everybody has to earn their way on our team.
