Canada cut two players from its roster for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship on Friday.
Sent home were forward Hunter Shinkaruk, a Vancouver Canucks prospect, and defenseman Damon Severson, a New Jersey Devils draft pick. They skated in Canada's 4-2 victory against Finland on Friday in a pre-tournament game in Angelholm, Sweden.
The moves leave Canada's roster at 23 players; one more player must be cut prior to the start of the tournament, which runs Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, 2014 in Malmo, Sweden.
Shinkaruk, the 24th pick of the 2013 NHL Draft, has five goals and 11 assists in 16 games with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League.
Severson, a 2012 second-round pick (No. 60) of the Devils, has 28 points and a plus-17 rating in 27 games.
