Penguins' Orpik skates; no timetable for return

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik skated briefly Friday morning, though he won't take part in the team's game-day skate prior to playing the New Jersey Devils.

Orpik skated with injured teammates Rob Scuderi and Tanner Glass, who are also on injured reserve.

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said Orpik's skate was merely light exercise and part of the protocol as he recovers from a concussion. He still has concussion symptoms.

There remains no timetable for the return of Orpik, who was pulled down from behind by Boston forward Shawn Thornton in a game between the teams on Dec. 7.

Thornton has an in-person disciplinary hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday.

Quote of the Day

He's, believe it or not, actually one of my favorite guys, and I've ended up trading him twice. I appreciate what he's done. He was one year away from being an unrestricted free agent, and I felt with this opportunity, that it was a chance that we were able to get somebody for him in Nick Bonino and Adam Clendening.
