Jackman looking to add physicality in Ducks' debut

ANAHEIM -- The Anaheim Ducks will try to end their five-game winless streak with some added grit in their lineup.

Right wing Tim Jackman is expected to make his Ducks debut Friday against the Tampa Bay Lightning after he was traded to Anaheim from the Calgary Flames. Jackman skated on a line with Matt Beleskey and Daniel Winnik at the morning skate.

Jackman said the writing was on the wall when his playing time was reduced in Calgary. He briefly spoke with coach Bruce Boudreau in the morning about his role.

"He told me he wants me to play hard, play physical," Jackman said. "But be smart. Be a good hockey player. Don't be running around. Because the last time we played here earlier with Calgary I got kicked out of the game [for butt-ending]. My emotions got the best of me."

Jackman said he was pleased to go from a rebuilding scenario in Calgary to the fourth-place team in the Western Conference. He noticed a difference with his new teammates in the morning skate.

"I can feel the confidence when they handle the puck and they're moving it," Jackman said. "When I was in Calgary confidence wasn't quite as high as I could tell as the morning skate here. Just to play with those guys -- we were talking and moving the puck around -- it was a lot of fun this morning."

On a night when the Ducks will honor Hall of Fame defenseman Scott Niedermayer, Anaheim will play its first game without top defenseman Francois Beauchemin, who is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Boudreau had no further update on Beauchemin, who crashed into the boards head-first Wednesday.

The move wasn't official yet, but defenseman Sami Vatanen will be recalled from the American Hockey League. Either Vatanen or Mark Fistric will take Beauchemin's place, although Vatanen previously was paired with Bryan Allen earlier this season.

"It's giving an opportunity for Sami to come back," Boudreau said. "It's giving an opportunity for [Fistric] to play. It's up to them to make sure that they do the job. I've always felt that it's not a negative, initially, but it's an opportunity."

Tampa Bay did not skate after it played Thursday in San Jose.
