Nashville Predators goalie Marek Mazanec will make his first NHL start Tuesday against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.
Mazanec, who was called up when Pekka Rinne went on injured reserve with a hip infection, made his NHL debut Nov. 8, when he stopped 22 of 24 shots after relieving Carter Hutton 8:23 into the Predators' 5-0 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Nov. 8.
A 2012 sixth-round pick (No. 179), Mazanec was 5-0-0 with a 1.97 goals-against average and .933 save percentage in five games this season with the Predators' American Hockey League affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals.
The Predators won't have Gabriel Bourque in the lineup. The forward left the team to return to Nashville to be with his wife, who had gone into labor with the couple's first child. According to The Tennessean, Bourque received a call at 4 a.m. Tuesday informing him of the impending arrival of the baby, and the team's manager of hockey operations, Brandon Walker, got Bourque on a 6 a.m. fight back to Nashville.
Here is how the rest of the Predators' lineup could look like, as well as what the Islanders likely will go with:
