RALEIGH, N.C. -- Minnesota Wild goaltender Josh Harding will make his fifth straigh start in net Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. Wild coach Mike Yeo said he strongly considered Niklas Backstrom for a start.
"We're going to get [Backstrom] in here soon," Wild coach Mike Yeo said. "But when a guy's playing really well, he deserves to keep on going."
Clayton Stoner, who fell into the boards awkwardly in a 3-2 shootout loss Thursday night at the Washington Capitals, will sit out against the Hurricanes. In his place, rookie Matt Dumba will play his 10th NHL game, which makes the first year of his entry-level contract official.
"We talked about [Stoner] being possible for the game, but we felt he wasn't going to be at 100 percent," Yeo said. "So why put him out there when we have healthy bodies."
Hurricanes goaltender Justin Peters will appear in his eighth straight game, taking over for injured goaltenders Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin. He is coming off his third career shutout, a 1-0 win against the New York Islanders on Thursday. He has not allowed an even-strength goal over his last 127:26.
