Niedermayer on his upcoming Hall of Fame induction

Scott Niedermayer spoke with NHL Live about his upcoming induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

"When I got that phone call it was pretty exciting, pretty humbling to think that I'm going to be included in the group of players that's in the Hall," Niedermayer said. "I still maybe don't truly believe it. When I get there I'm sure it's going to hit me a little bit."

The offensive-minded Niedermayer initially struggled early playing under New Jersey Devils coach Jacques Lemaire's defensive-oriented system.

"I had growing pains there," Niedermayer said. "Obviously with Jacques Lemaire and the way he coached and the way he wanted his teams played the game, it took a little adjustment on my part. It didn't happen overnight. We had success his second year there, which made it quite difficult to argue. We won a Stanley Cup, so really no complaints about that.

"As a bit of time progressed, and maybe we weren't having the same success, that's when there were some growing pains. We butted heads a little bit. I thought I knew best as a young player back there, but obviously I'm thankful for him challenging me to be a better player all over the ice."
