USA Warriors' Joseph Bowser joins NHL Live
A staff assistant to the secretary of the Army and a 14-year veteran, Sgt. Joseph L. Bowser was a guest on NHL Live to discuss the USA Warriors hockey team and meeting the Chicago Blackhawks during a trip to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday.

"It was just a great event," Bowser said. "Everybody was going around there, getting to talk to the guys and taking pictures with [Blackhawks captain Jonathan] Toews and the Cup. It was an awesome event."

While serving in Iraq, Bowser was wounded from shrapnel from a rocket April 2004. He was told he could either keep his leg or have it amputated, which he was told would allow him to do all the things he used to do.

Bowser has played hockey since he was a kid. Today he wears a prosthetic and continues to play his favorite game.

"I never realized that getting blown up over in Iraq and losing my leg I would end up having the opportunity to do the things I do today: work for the secretary, being friends with the Blackhawks and just doing the things I love to do most, and that's playing hockey," Bowser said. "I basically had my leg cut off so I can play hockey. Who else do you know that loves hockey that much?"
