COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Blue Jackets and Anaheim Ducks enter their game Sunday at Nationwide Arena banged up from victories on Friday.
While the Ducks won 2-1 in Ottawa, they lost forward Jakob Silfverberg for four-to-six weeks because of a broken right hand, the result of a slash by the Senators' Jared Cowen. Anaheim will also be without center Mathieu Perreault (wrist) on Sunday.
Peter Holland was recalled from Norfolk of the American Hockey League and will play on the fourth line. Kyle Palmieri returns to the lineup and Nick Bonino will move to the second line from the fourth.
"We've got depth," Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said. "That's one great thing this organization has. A guy like Kyle Palmieri hasn't played as many minutes as he likes gets a chance now to step in.
"You can't dwell on injuries. Somebody has to do his job. Now this is Peter Holland's chance. He had a couple before. This might be his best chance to stick with the team forever."
Holland has played 25 games for the Ducks over the previous two seasons and has four goals and two assists.
"There's always a tendency to try to do too much or get a little nervous and hold the stick to tight when you're called up," Holland said. "You just have to relax. I've been here before so I'll try to build off that experience."
In the Blue Jackets' 5-2 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs forwards Boone Jenner and Derek McKenzie sustained lower-body injuries. Coach Todd Richards said Boone is out for "a while" but McKenzie is day-to-day.
To fill the vacancies, Ryan Craig will play for the first time in four games and will occupy Jenner's spot on the second line, while forward Michael Chaput was promoted from Springfield of the AHL and will make his NHL debut on the fourth line.
Chaput was called up at the end of last season for a day when a string of injuries hit but did not dress and said he feels ready for the challenge.
"I've played here in the preseason on the third and fourth lines," Chaput said. "I just have to play a simple game, go up and down the ice and be physical embracing that energy."
Still, Richards knows that MacKenzie and Jenner were part of the reason the Blue Jackets have won three in a row.
"You are missing some energy. You are missing speed," the coach said. "We'll have to find ways to be effective with those guys out of the lineup."
Meanwhile, the Ducks received some positive news as forward Dustin Penner practiced Sunday for the first time since being knocked unconscious Oct. 20 on a hit by Dallas Stars forward Ryan Garbutt.
Penner said he felt fine considering the flight Saturday to Columbus from Anaheim left him with little sleep and dealing with the adjustment to the time change.
"It's tough," he said. "Tomorrow will be the true test for me."
He might be ready to play Tuesday at Philadelphia or Thursday at Boston.
As for the hit that drew a five-game suspension for Garbutt, Penner said, "I thought it was needless."
