Sabres' Zadorov to play, Ristolainen sent to AHL

The Buffalo Sabres have activated rookie defenseman Nikita Zadorov from injured reserve and will have him in the lineup when the team plays the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.

To make room on their roster, the Sabres sent another rookie defenseman, Rasmus Ristolainen, to their American Hockey League affiliate in Rochester.

Zadorov was taken with the 16th pick of the 2013 NHL Draft, eight spots after the Sabres chose Ristolainen. The Russian missed Buffalo's first nine games of the season while recovering from a finger injury he sustained blocking a shot during the preseason.

Ristolainen had no points and a minus-4 rating in eight games, averaging 16:52 of ice time per game.

Zadorov will be the eighth player taken in the first round of the 2013 draft to play a game this season.

Quote of the Day

For our team, as a group, we've never been this far before, and so it's just more lessons learned, and sometimes you have to go to the school of hard knocks to find out what works and what doesn't. We've got a young group. They've played some unreal hockey here to get us this far, and we showed if we're not going to play the proper way, a really, really good hockey team is going to beat you, and that's what they did. It's a lesson learned.
