Hertl will be in Sharks' lineup

ST. LOUIS -- San Jose Sharks rookie Tomas Hertl, who has been banged up in the last two games, will play Tuesday when the Sharks play against the St. Louis Blues (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN2, RDS2).

Hertl was hit in the head by the Vancouver Canucks' Alexander Edler in the Sharks' 4-1 victory at Vancouver on Thursday. Edler was suspended three games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for the hit.

Hertl finished the game, but then got hit hard again by the Ottawa Senators' Clarke MacArthur in the Sharks' 3-2 victory Saturday.

But Hertl, the 17th pick in the 2012 NHL Draft who leads the team with seven goals and eight points, was in his regular spot Tuesday, skating on the top line with Joe Thornton and Brent Burns.

"I feel very good and I am ready tonight," Hertl said. "Two days [off] for my body and today now, I am ready to go for the game."

Sharks coach Todd McLellan confirmed Hertl's availability.

The Sharks also recalled forward Bracken Kearns from the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League and he could play Tuesday against the Blues. He takes the roster spot of forward Adam Burish, who was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

"He [Kearns] will take the warmup and we'll make a decision on whether he plays [Tuesday]," McLellan said of Kearns. "With [Burish] not getting real good news the other day at the doctor, we felt that we needed to bring that extra body in. It still can be short-term. It depends on what happens over the next little bit, but from there, we'll just play it day-to-day."

Quote of the Day

I'm just excited about the opportunity. I've been on the ice earlier than usual and in the weight room, pushing around a little more weights than usual. Every day I go into a workout with a smile on my face and ready to go. When you do have a little more responsibility, you want to take your lunch pail and get ready to work.
