Bernier in net as Maple Leafs face Avalanche

It may be just one week into the 2013-14 NHL season, but there is palpable buzz in Toronto as the Colorado Avalanche come to town to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre. Both teams come into the game undefeated and Toronto will be looking to build on a hot start that has seen the team win its first three games.

While Toronto's three wins have all come in close games, Colorado has won its two games by a combined score of 9-2 and has yet to trail this season.

Forward Jay McClement missed the morning skate for the Maple Leafs. His wife is expecting their first child and he is considered a game-time decision. Jonathan Bernier will be in net for Toronto, his first start since coming on in relief of James Reimer in Toronto's 5-4 shootout win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. After Reimer allowed four goals on 20 Ottawa shots, Bernier stopped all 15 shots he faced in regulation and overtime as well as both shooters he faced in the shootout.

Here is Toronto's projected lineup for Tuesday, according to the team's website:

James van Riemsdyk - Tyler Bozak - Phil Kessel

Joffrey Lupul - Nazem Kadri - Carter Ashton

Troy Bodie - Dave Bolland - Mason Raymond

Colton Orr - Trevor Smith - Jamie Devane

Dion Phaneuf - Carl Gunnarsson

Morgan Rielly - Cody Franson

Jake Gardiner - Paul Ranger

Jonathan Bernier

James Reimer

Scratched: David Clarkson (suspended), Jay McClement

Injured: Nikolai Kulemin (ankle), Mark Fraser (lower body), Frazer McLaren (finger)

Here is Colorado's projected lineup, according to Adrian Dater of the Denver Post:

Ryan O'Reilly - Matt Duchene - Steve Downie

Jamie McGinn - Nathan MacKinnon - P.A. Parenteau

Cody McLeod - John Mitchell - Patrick Bordeleau

Erik Johnson _ Jan Hejda

Tyson Barrie - Nate Guenin

Cory Sarich - Andre Benoit

Semyon Varlamov

Jean-Sebastien Giguere

Injured: Ryan Wilson (knee)

Scratched: Nick Holden, Matt Hunwick
