Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne will sit out Saturday's game against the Minnesota Wild, coach Bruce Boudreau said Friday. Selanne will play the following night against the Winnipeg Jets, with whom he began his NHL career in 1992-93 by scoring a career-high 76 goals.
"Winnipeg might be a pretty big night for him," Boudreau said. "They love him there and rightfully so. They should love him."
Boudreau's plan is to rest Selanne in at least one game during the Ducks' 12 back-to-back sets this season. The big-picture idea is to have Selanne, 43, strong for the other 70 games.
Selanne is in his 22nd NHL season. He signed a one-year contract worth $2.5 million and announced he will retire at the end of the 2013-14 season.
