Avalanche captain Landeskog out with leg injury

DENVER -- Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog will miss Friday night's game against the Nashville Predators at the Pepsi Center because of a leg injury.

Landeskog was hurt in Wednesday's season-opening 6-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks and is listed as day to day. John Mitchell, who centered the fourth line against the Ducks, will replace Landeskog at left wing on a line with Paul Stastny and Alex Tanguay. Marc-Andre Cliche will center the fourth line with Cody McLeod and Patrick Bordeleau.

Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said he expects Landeskog to resume skating Sunday and to accompany the team on a three-game trip that starts Tuesday in Toronto.

"Honestly, I didn't see (how Landeskog was injured)," Roy said. "I know that he came to the bench at some point and talked to our trainer about the leg, that something was wrong with his leg. But he kept going and this morning he mentioned that he's feeling so much better. I think it's very positive."

Mitchell, who scored a goal against the Ducks, is one of the Avalanche's more versatile forwards. He played all three forward positions last season and scored 10 goals.

"When injuries occur you get bumped up a little bit and you play different positions," he said. "I'm accustomed to it. I've played fourth-line center and first-line left wing and right wing. I did quite a bit of it last year when I got moved around and played different forward positions. I feel comfortable in all three of them. It's not a big deal to me."

The Predators didn't skate Friday morning after playing Thursday night in St. Louis, where they opened their season with a 4-2 loss.
