Red Wings send Nyquist, Mrazek to AHL

The Detroit Red Wings have assigned forward Gustav Nyquist to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League, according to a report by the Detroit Free Press.

Goaltender Petr Mrazek also was sent to Grand Rapids, and forward Darren Helm will be put on long-term injured reserve, according to the report.

Nyquist played in all 14 games for the Red Wings during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but a number of offseason additions, plus the re-signing of Daniel Cleary earlier this month, created a glut of forwards on the Detroit roster.

Quote of the Day

It's pretty crazy, but believe me when I say we didn't draft these players with the mindset we had to because they had good hockey-playing dads. It just turned out that way. But we're certainly glad they're a part of our organization.

— Arizona Coyotes director of amateur scouting Tim Bernhardt regarding the coincidence that six of the organization's top prospects are sons of former NHL players
